About Probus
The Probus Movement
Probus is an international organisation operating in many countries around the world. In Australia clubs operate under the auspices of Probus South Pacific Limited, are governed by its constitution but otherwise are autonomous. A Probus club is an association of retired and semi-retired people who appreciate and value contact with others in similar circumstances.
The organisation aims to stimulate thought and interest and participation in activities which provide regular opportunities to keep members’ minds active, expand their interests and to enjoy the fellowship of new friends at a time when horizons may be narrowing and opportunities to make new friends may be limited.
Probus clubs are non-political and non-sectarian, are non-profit making and have no fund raising activities. Probus clubs are not service clubs. The aim is to operate at minimum cost to members.
About Us
Our Club offers membership to both men and women and thus is known as a mixed or combined club. Our maximum allowable membership is 135. At times a short waiting list is maintained.
Members are drawn from a wide range of suburbs in the northern area of Sydney.
The Club is managed by a Management Committee of volunteer members elected to office each year by the membership.
Our annual membership fee is currently $65 per member.
Each month a newsletter is distributed to advise members of planned activities. Within our Club we have various activity groups, each headed by a volunteer member.
The core activity groups include:
Outings and Tours
Dinners
Luncheons
Drinks and Nibbles
Theatre
Walks
The number and type of groups vary over time and the opportunity always exists for members to form new groups. There is more information about these activities on other pages of this site.
The Club holds a general meeting each month. See the section on Meetings for further information.
